Please click our parking map for details and locations
  • Do you have washroom facilities on board
All of our yachts except for our First 22 - Hot Flash have a washroom on board for your convenience
  • What mobility are requirements for participating on a sail
Our 3hr sailing Experience is quite relaxing and we have bench and deck seating available. You must be able to board the boat which requires the ability to step out/up/down approximately 0.5m or 2'. Once on board you may remain seated the whole time or move about the yacht. There are hand rails, however, the nature of a sail boat is to heal (lean to one side) and rock. You should maintain a solid grip and have good stability to move about. From June-September we are barefoot on board. Sailing Courses involve activity and movement the whole time you are sailing. You should have solid stability and strength to balance, pull on lines and turn winches handles.

  • Can Any One Sail

While Gone Sailing Adventures requires certain mobility for boarding and disembarking, if you have special circumstances, please contact us directly. Our goal is to provide a great experience on the water for you and we will adapt to you as best we can.
  • Will I get cold or wet?
On a typical sail you willprobably get splashed a bit unless the weather is absolutely calm. The proper clothing will keep you warm and dry so there is no need to shiver. Our fully enclosed cockpit will also protect you from the elements in the event of a sudden change in weather. We also have windbreakers, sweatshirts and blankets on board to ensure your comfort.
  • How should I dress for a day or evening sail?
We are an outdoor activity! During sailing you will be exposed to sun, wind and cool breezes. Be prepared and this will make your excursion much more enjoyable. We recommend wearing sunscreen.and a hat. Additionally we recommend having layered clothing; a base cool layer, warmer middle layer and waterproof outer layer. The temperature can be much cooler during a breeze and when the sun goes down. Please note that we are Barefoot on all boats
  • Where will we go during our sail?
On a typical 3hr sail (regardless of which yacht), we generally sail through the harbour and then out through one of the channels circumnavigating the islands, Our sail takes us between 2 and 4 miles into the lake and then returning to our dock. Based on our customers desires, we often stop for 20 minutes at one of the island beaches for a swim. Itineraries on private charters are flexible and may include a tour through the island canals or a stop for a swim.
  • How many people are in each class?
Our 3 hr Experience Sailing sail is aboard our 41'yachts. We can accommodate up to 12 people plus the skipper and mate on board. There is space in the cockpit as well as on the deck in front of the mast for relaxing and seating below in the cabin. Our Introduction to Sailing is aboard our Beneteau First 22 and has a capacity of 4 students. The Sail Canada Basic Keel Boat Cruising and Intermediate Cruising have a maximum of 4 students.
  • What if the weather doesn’t cooperate?
The one part of sailing out of our control is the weather. Toronto has a very moderate climate and foul weather, rain usually is light and is only temporary. Unless there is lightening in the immediate area or the wind or waves are deemed unsafe, we will be sailing (it often makes the trip more exciting). During more severe conditions, there is always a dry place in the cabin. In the unlikely event sailing is cancelled you will be offered a rain-check to return another day for courses and public sails. Private Charters have the option to purchase weather insurance in advance.
  • What if I get sea-sick?
The waters on Lake Ontario are generally light with only moderate waves during the summer. Relatively few people suffer from some sort of nausea during oursails. We recommend two herbal remedies that are non-medicinal. Ginger Gravol and Motion Ease The Ginger Gravol can be taken in advance and found at most pharmacies. In the unlikely event that you are not feeling well, our staff will do their best to make you comfortable during your sail. If you plan on taking any anti-nausea medication - You should do so at least 45 minutes prior to boarding. Remember regular gravol or dramamine will cause drowsiness.
  • Is the yacht safe?
All f oour yachts are recent construction and built and maintained to current safety standards. All are Transport Canada licensed for passenger carriage and we have more than the minimum required safety equipment on board.
  • Do we need to provide a damage deposit?
If you feel that you need to provide a damage deposit and are concerned you or your guests will not respect our equipment, we probably don't want you to sail with us. We do not require a damage deposit, however, you are responsible for any damage caused by you or your guests.
  • Is alcohol permitted on the boats?
As we are licensed by AGCO, we are not permitted to serve outside alcohol. As such all beverages must be purchased through Gone Sailing Adventures. Our motor yacht Black Rock is not licensed by AGCO and as such is classified as BYOB.
  • Is tipping the crew permitted?
Our fees do not include crew gratuity and the same as you would with any service, it is customary to demonstrate your appreciation to the hard work the sailing/serving team provides to ensure the boat is safe, clean and you are catered to professionally. Crew gratuities (discretionary) are customary at 15-20%, scaled up/down as per level of service.
  • Can we swim?
During the hot summer days we encourage a swim in the fresh Lake Ontario water. Our boats have noodles and other flotation devices. We also offer an assortment of giant floaties for use on our private events at an additional price. Micro-fibre Gone Sailing Adventures towels are available for purchase on board.
  • Can We Suntan?
On the water, even on cloudy days, the sun is stronger than on shore and your tan will darken both from the direct sunlight, the reflection off the water, and our large sails. We have a lot of wide open deck space for which to capture those warm rays. Just remember your 50+ SPF sunscreen.
  • Can we fish?
While Lake Ontario has many species of freshwater fish including salmon, lake trout, pickerel, pike and perch, our boats are not set up for fishing. We do however provide the opportunity for dolphin spotting from our foredeck. No one has seen these elusive saltwater mammals - maybe one day.
  • How many people can we bring on each vessel?
Each boat is licensed for a differenct number of passengers. Please check our Boats page for the capacity of each vessel. Tickets for public sails are price per person
  • Do you have reduced prices for children
Our prices on public sails are per person. We do not offer a discount for children as we are limited in the number of guests on each sail and children are counted the same as an adult.
  • Do you provide Catering?
We have a special yacht- desinged menu from our galley which requires 7 days advance notice. It is available from our website by clicking here.
  • Can we bring our own food? If so, what will we have to bring with us?"
During a private charter, you may purchase catering from our specially yacht designed menu or bring your own. If bringing your own food, please ensure it is in plastic containers. No Styrofoam or corrugated cardboard. If bringing your own food we have a serving and cleaning fee of $15pp (minimum $50). During group sails, we do not permit outside food brought on board due to the intimacy of the close quarters and potential allergies etc. We do however, provide complimentary snacks and bottled water. Individually prepared sandwiches are available for advance purchase and Beverages and on board snacks are availble from our menu
  • Do you sell Gift Cards/Certificates
Yes we do! Gift Certificates are available through the calendar booking pages. Simply purchase a gift card instead of scheduling your date. When you are ready to schedule your sail, enter the voucher code on the certificate.
  • What is included in a Private Charter
Included in your Private Charter is: A beautiful and spotless new sailing yacht (2014 or newer), a professional, friendly, and knowledgeable captain and host, all necessary safety gear and cleaning up after the charter as well as fuel, mooring and anchoring fees.
  • What is not included in a Private Charter
Food and Beverage is not included in our pricing. Everyone has a different preference and budget. We offer a specially designed menu from our galley. Your crew Gratuity is also not included in our pricing. If gratuity was automatically included, service may not be exceptional. We believe only exceptional service should be rewarded and we strive to meet this expectation with every charter. The charter industry norm is reported to be 15-20% of the total (food/beverage/charter) fee.
  • What does Rafting look like
Rafting is when we anchor multiple boats together and our guests can cross onto each yacht.
